If there is a relevant topic in both the aviation and food industries, it is sustainability. However, nice talk is easier than real action, so it is time for an innovation. Therfore, we present you our Snackboxtogo’s Sustainabilty dashboard.
At Snackboxtogo, we go beyond just talking about sustainability. Our commitment to sustainability needs to be backed up by real action. However, we also recognize that we don’t have full control over our production due to cost-related factors. What if a customer doesn’t want to focus on sustainability and only cares about a cheap product? Our answer is to show them the true impact of these “cheap” products on CO2 emissions. This is exactly what our Sustainability Dashboard does. It provides both us and the customer with insights into the CO2 emissions generated by producing goods for the customer. This comes with several benefits.
Insight The key benefit for both us and the customer is gaining insight—insight into emissions. The dashboard clearly shows how much total CO2 is emitted for each customer. An example of something we learned from the dashboard; The production phase with the largest impact on CO2 emissions? The farming phase. CO2 reduction in this phase can be achieved by opting for a more sustainable alternative.
Reduce CO2 Emissions Once insight is gained, a decision can be made to switch to another ingredient that results in lower CO2 emissions. Our Sustainability Dashboard makes it clear how significant the impact of such a change can be. Moreover, this enables transparent communication about what steps are needed to reduce emissions. Without specific data on emissions per customer, communication remains just guessing for both the customer and the producer.
A future option could also be CO2 offsetting by planting trees. This isn’t seen as a solution, but rather as a way to give back. After all, it would be overly idealistic to think all CO2 emissions can be eliminated. By compensating emissions in this way, we are still doing something back to the environment.
Awareness Finally, this insight gained by the dashboard also raises awareness for both the customer and Snackboxtogo. How much CO2 is actually being emitted? Or, how sustainable is a product really? Some products may surprise us, either positively or negatively. This serves as a learning experience for both parties in understanding which products are better or worse in terms of emissions.
